Own Selection from Operas of Gilbert & Sullivan

Own choice of One Traditional Folk Song from any country. Includes Newfoundland and Labrador traditional folk songs and Newfoundland and Labrador contemporary songs composed in a folk song style. Selection should be specified at registration. Each participant must provide original music for the adjudicator. Where original music is non-existent or out of print, words and melodic line must be provided.

Definition of a Folk Song: A folk song may or may not have a known composer, but it must be a song which is perpetuated by oral tradition and it may undergo change in the process of oral transmission so that it exists in multiple versions and variants.

Own Choice of One Traditional Folk Song from any country that are songs originating in, and forming part of a country's characteristic culture and not attributable in either words or music to a specific composer. Competitors must list country of origin on entry form.

(Including Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Songs & Newfoundland and Labrador Compositions) - Own Selection.

Own Selection from a recognized church repertoire.

Own Choice of a selection by a Canadian Composer. May be published or unpublished.

In All Classes, Own Choice of one selection, selections MUST come from either the Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada syllabus. Singing should be in classical style. Selection should be specified at registration, else no later than Jan.31st, 2024.

Own selection from a recognized Walt Disney production. Selection must be age appropriate. Costumes and theatre elements will be permitted but are optional. Marks and adjudication to be based on vocal only

Own selection referring to: Bebop, Big Band, Blue Note Jazz, Contemporary Jazz, Cool Jazz, Dixieland, Hard Bop, Latin Jazz, Mainstream Jazz, Ragtime, Smooth Jazz, Swing, Traditional Jazz, as well as pop standards that predate the rock genre (pre-1950's). No modern contemporary music done in a "jazz style" will be allowed.

One Musical Selection from this genre. Selections must be age appropriate and content will be monitored.

Contemporary Folk refers to post Bob Dylan Folk Singer/songwriters of the 70's and beyond and MUST BE attributable to a specific composer in the folk genre; songs from other genres with folk elements will NOT BE accepted.

The adjudicator will select the test piece which will be available to be picked up by the performer from the Committee Secretary 48 hours before performance.
